Business Unit Manager

 

Do you like to lead and influence change? If so, you need to look at this! An industry leader in automotive component design and manufacturing has an immediate opening for a Business Unit Manager to be based at a flagship plant in Ohio. This Operations Leader will be the catalyst for all tactical and strategic duties for a single business unit within a large manufacturing plant, supporting up to 300 non-union employees. Additionally, you will drive lean & continuous improvement initiatives in production control, engineering, and maintenance for your business unit.

This position is an absolutely critical part of their continued growth and has a tremendous amount of visibility! It is considered a stepping stone for an eventual Plant Management position. This site is booming with business and offers a family-oriented culture.

 

Core responsibilities:

 

Drive the consistent execution of manufacturing schedule based on sales and production capacity

Lead a team of 3-6 direct reports along with up to 300 production employees, covering multiple shifts

Implement processes designed to control quality and production related costs

 

Focus on the 4 key process indicators: Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost

 

Implement an Operational Excellence / Lean Manufacturing Strategy, ideally based on the Toyota Production System

Lead cross-functional teams along with collaborating and influencing site leadership to help drive a cultural change, constantly pushing employees / managers to be better

Champion effective on-going communication throughout the organization

 

Develop and manage both hourly and salaried employees through targeted employee development programs based in solid performance reviews, opportunities for training, rewards for top performers and appropriate action for under performers

 

Requirements:

 

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or a related field, MBA a strong plus

 

A minimum of 5 years of progressive operations experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment, strongly prefer prior injection molding experience

 

Cross functional experience in at least 3 of the following areas preferred: Quality, Supplier Quality, Process Engineering, Materials Management, Maintenance, Production Supervision, Value Stream Management, Human Resources and Safety

 

Strongly prefer prior manufacturing experience in a multi-shift environment

 

Prefer a Six Sigma Black Belt Certification or some formalized Lean / Toyota Production System Certification / Training

 

Business acumen along with exemplary communication at all levels, written and verbal

 

Must have a hands-on, results-oriented style with strong influencing skills with a strong shop-floor presence

Proficiency with PC software required (Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project and Power Point).
